How the ATS checker works

Upload your resume

Drop in a PDF, Word document or text file. We read it the way an applicant tracking system does: the text only, no layout.

Get your score

Checks across four areas: the sections an ATS looks for, length, what your bullets actually say, and formatting it can read. Each problem is pinned to the line it is on.

Fix it in the builder

Your resume opens in the resume builder with the fixes listed. Edit, pick a template and download.

What we check

  • Sections: name, email, phone, a summary, work experience, education and skills. Missing contact details are the most common reason an application never reaches a person.
  • Length: word count against your years of experience, bullets per job, and a date on every entry.
  • Content: bullets that start with an action verb and contain a number, a skills list long enough to match keywords, and a summary of the right length.
  • Formatting: text that can be extracted, standard section headings, one date format, and a file type every ATS accepts.

What an ATS actually does

An applicant tracking system stores applications and lets recruiters search and filter them. It reads your resume as plain text, pulls out contact details, job titles, dates and skills, and matches them against the job. A resume it cannot read, or one with gaps in those fields, drops down the list before anyone sees it. The score here measures exactly that: how cleanly the text comes out and how much of what an ATS looks for it finds.

Common questions

Is the ATS checker free?

Yes. You can check a resume without creating an account, and open it in the editor to fix it. Downloading the finished PDF needs a free account.

Is my resume stored?

No. The file is read, scored and discarded. If you open it in the builder, it lives in your browser until you choose to save it to an account.

Why is my score different from other checkers?

Every checker uses its own rules. Ours are listed above and are fixed: the same file always gets the same score, and every point lost is pinned to the line that lost it.
